In old Farsi and Arabic manuscripts the color red was often used to complement black as a decorative or functional element, often combining both. I am using red as chapter markers (a convention from the 11th century on), and also to record my own responses to the text I’m writing, and/or to emphasize certain words or phrases in Zahra’s text, again from my subjective view point. I’m also using red for punctuation marks but these are placed above or below the baseline like the accents in Arabic and Farsi writing when they are used.
